Evergreen Speedway Super Speedway of the West! – Northwest's Destination for Motorsports!
Jamestown, IN – After a very successful inaugural season, Officials with the King of the
Wing are please to announce that the Series will expand to the Northwest region in 2015. The
Northwest has a well-established base of Sprint cars and fans with the Northwest Sprint car Racing
Association in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia Canada.
The first Northwest race will be Thursday, July 30th at the legendary ¼ mile oval in Meridian, Idaho.
Meridian Speedway Managing Partner, Adam Nelson, commented on the Thursday night race, “We
worked hard with Davey {Hamilton} to make this race a reality at Meridian Speedway, our fans are avid
supporters of Winged Sprint car racing and we are confident that they will support a Thursday night
show.” Meridian Speedway roots run deep in open wheel racing dating back to its first season in 1951. “I
could not be happier to bring this series to Meridian Speedway, this track not only has a rich history with
winged sprint cars, it is my hometown track and very special to my family”, stated KOTW promoter
Davey Hamilton.
In a first for the series, Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington, will host two races, on two
different tracks. Saturday August 1st drivers will compete on the 3/8 mile track, and Sunday August 2nd
will move up to the larger 5/8 mile track. Hamilton said, “Evergreen’s two different tracks at the same
facility will give our drivers and teams a unique racing experience.”
Saturday night’s event will feature the prestigious Rory Price Memorial Race. Rory Price made a huge
impact on so many lives in his native western Washington home, as well as the entire length of the west
coast. Rory started out in go-karts moving to mini-sprints, midgets, and sprint cars. He started racing
professionally at age sixteen and could be found in most any type of open wheeled car on dirt or
asphalt. Rory died of injuries in a testing accident on March 31, 2006.
“We are ecstatic that the King of the Wing Sprint Car Shootout Series will be running the Rory Price Memorial”, stated Doug Hobbs, President of Evergreen Speedway. He added, “The two day King of the Wing event will feature one of the largest purses for sprint cars on the west coast.”
The “King of the Wing” series is designed to work with all teams, promoters, fans and sponsors, to
strengthen pavement winged sprint car racing from coast to coast, working directly with all existing
pavement sprint car series. Long term plans for the series are to provide a competitive rules package
that can apply to all sprint cars and create race events that truly allows the promoters and racers to
build bigger venues, show the sponsors and fans the world’s fastest short track cars, and to promote
some of the best short track drivers competing head-to-head no matter what part of the country they
are from or what series they run on a regular basis. This is the only pavement sprint car series that
features competitors from all across the United States and Canada.
